San Marcos is located in the beautiful foothills of the northern part of San Diego County. Nestled between Carlsbad to the west, Encinitas to the southwest, Vista to the northwest and Escondido to the east. For a medium sized city, San Marcos has maintained its small town charm.
Considered a center for education in San Diego North, San Marcos served by the San Marcos Unified School District which includes 20 schools with diverse programs. Itis home to Palomar College and California State University San Marcos.
With 63 miles of trails, 35 parks, 11 recreational facilities, two community pools and hundreds of classes, camps and activities you will find San Marcos an appealing place to explore and you’ll find the beach only a short drive away to the west.
San Marcos offers over 14 different distinct neighborhoods. From Lake San Marcos, a resort-based area surrounding the Lake San Marcos Reservoir, Old Creek Ranch, a lovely neighborhood with mostly Mediterranean and contemporary homes, to San Elijo Hills, a wonderful master-planned community and more. Many of the homes in San Marcos include attached and single family established homes mostly built between 1970 and 1999, or they are newer homes built in 2000 or later.
Vibrant San Marcos has experienced quite a bit of growth over the past decade with additional plans on the books for future development. The area continues to attract many new residents and has become a shopping, dining and entertainment destination.
